The Consolidated Ezra Miles Cohen Book Reviewing Service

(A New Series)
Brooklyn, New York. July, 2007

As a pre-idealist, pre-one-year-old aficionado of children's literature, I was recently appalled at the dearth of book reviews of some of the more recent releases in the "Newborn and Up" category of Children's fiction. To rectify this situation, I began this new series with a look into

What Floats?
By: Julie Aigner-Clark
A Baby Einstein Book

Received as a gift during my pre-self-awareness days, I can assure that I have no relation with the author, publishing house or "publishing concept" of What Floats?. The reason I am up front with this information is that the accompanying author photo may imply some sort of relationship in that I appear to be gobbling the book up. I assure you that nothing could be further from the truth.

While colleagues of mine had recommended said tome to me, I was not quite prepared for the rubbery feeling of the pages. The pages were quite bend-ible and, get this, the book actually does float. Thus far, the book had delivered on its first promise, The Float Book is a true floater.

I then moved on to the text and storyline of The Float Book. Centered around the somewhat unlikely story of a Baby Lion Cub rafting on a river with his mom, the Lionness. Baby Lion Cub then has the startling idea to attempt to figure out what else floats, besides Baby Lion Cub in a tube and Lioness on a raft. After detailing a froggy, a turtle, and an alligator, Baby Lion Cub improbably finds a kitten and puppy dog canoeing. From there the storyline can only be said to deteriorate. And deteriorate rapidly.

The technical review of the book done, I moved on to the gastronomical review. I have attempted to taste, eat, consume, lick or otherwise use my tongue upon the book.

CONCLUSION: I have to say that the book is quite yummy. In fact, what this book may lack in "read-ability," it more than makes up for in "eat-ability."
